  • Canadian Physiotherapy Pain Science Division

I am pleased to see that the Canadian Physiotherapy Association has got a webpage up now for the Pain Science Division.

I am very proud of this, and of us.

We used to be, of course, if you recall, the Canadian Physiotherapy Pain Sciences Group.
You can still read all the former newsletters, archived here.

Here is a little update on the CPA PSD - we now have our own website. :clap2:
It's a subsite of the CPA website. You can see it here.

          We are so launched now.
We had our very first ever executive gathering this weekend, in Ontario, at the home of one of the members, Deb Patterson.

Deb is a presenter in the Virtual Symposium on Pain (her workshop will be available next week). So far, there are well over a hundred registrants (which is apparently more than usual) and more are signing up all the time, a very good thing! The Canadian dollar is so low right now that it has become exceedingly affordable. Here is another thread about it.

What a great weekend. We are a group of six who seem to balance each other fairly well, and I have no doubt our new little division will accomplish great things in the upcoming 18 month and 5 year time frames we examined over the weekend.

We also enjoyed a lovely garden view from our meeting room over a broad patio, a toasty fireplace, lots of good meals, brisk walks in Ontario autumn weather in the woods around Deb's home. It was sunny and the air a bit crisp, with a huge bright blue dome sky, its edges held down by solid quiet brick homes and trees full of red autumn leaves.

I logged on to the Virtual Symposium's first workshop today, Birth of the Pain Experience by Dave Walton, and watched it all the way through. What a great production - really. It's a much fuller version than the one I previewed last month, naturally, and just was launched today. Dave explains the intricacies of pain and sorts out all the varieties, highlights all the usual mistakes made by those who have categorized it in the past, updates the definitions with new information, introduces neuropathic pain, considers the psychosocial aspects. Very well-organized info packaged to perfection, with little movies and visuals. Each part of the brain involved in birthing the pain experience is individually introduced.

Participants are joining the discussion forum and introducing themselves. Each workshop is accessible for a week, ample time to view it multiple times from any train of thought, and write down questions and thoughts for discussion. There is still time to join, all week long, and catch this amazing first-ever Canadian PT educational offering.

The PSD has been busy busy busy. We have just launched an accessible, google-able, online directory for patients looking to find a PT in Canada whose perspective includes pain science. and who is a member in good standing of the PSD. Here is a link: Canadian Pain Physio Directory.

Built and maintained by yours truly.

Mmmh. As always: well done, Diane!

A small question: I paid my dues to PSD , yet I am not listed?

You need to submit a request to be added. An invitation went out along with the last newsletter. Did you not see it? Being on the registry is not automatic.

I'll be happy to add you guys - all it takes is an email to me with the info you'd like to see made available to the public. Then I have to check to ensure you're a member in good standing of PSD.
