For the time being I've moved this thread to the rubbish cube. It seems a thinly veiled attempt to disguise a pitch by pretending it's a topic. We don't look kindly on that sort of thing around here.
Diane, sorry if my post offended you. I am in now way promoting this system. I'm actually trying to de-bunk many facets of it and wanted the help of all you very bright people here at Soma Simple.

Particularly, I wanted some better understanding of the nervous system's role in these so-called "magical" mobility exrcises that the system promotes. I've read Butler's and Shacklock's books and already see a lot of holes in what Z-health claims. I just need a little more ammunition so I can keep more colleagues of mine from spending their hard-earned cash on these over-priced certifications.

Bernard, I am in no way trying to advertise or promote this system. I'm just trying to discuss the so-called evidence behind the system so I can debate with some of my colleagues who are proponents of the system (and apparently like shelling out thousands of dollars).

I think there are some interesting facets to the "joint mobility" exercises in this system, but I don't really think the results are occuring via the mechanisms they discuss. That is my goal for posting on this forum; to better understand what might actually be happening when one performs such movements and to de-mystify the new-agey sounding stuff. Perhaps I can explain more of what I know about the system and then we can go from there...

It's very easy to be impressed by this kind of stuff if you understand very little about human physiology (not to mention marketing), which surprisingly includes a very large proportion of people in the health industry.

    Keats, I dunno...

Testimonials are a sign of emotional marketing ploy; and he is still focusing on joints despite the statement that the nervous system rules. Most chiros would agree with that statement, anyway. He also makes the comment that he is doing something no other doctor..or PT knows about. How does he know that?

Six days and $2000++ to learn how to do this....ouch.

Despite a lot of reservations about this chap's intentions, thanks for posting the information for perusal.

    More on Z-Health

Here's some additional comments on what my colleague learned in this latest seminar (sounds a little far fetched but maybe I'm wrong); I've underlined some of the questionable claims:

"....Speaking of eyes, here are some of the things we learned about the eyes.

The muscles that control eye movements can actually become imbalanced. We learned a test to detect these. And then we learned how to correct the imbalances. This is important to know because if these imbalances/weaknesses exist, they affect how the body moves and what happens on the myofascial level. This means your eyes can set you up for structural imbalances and injuries without you even knowing it. Take home point (mine, not Dr. Cobb's): quit using the foam roller for tissue quality until you know if you have a visual problem. If you do, your body will wind your fascia in the opposite direction of your weakness.

The same holds true for the vestibular system: If you have an inner ear problem (and yes, we learned a test for this too) than the same holds true for the fascia. Take home point: Get off the foam roller.

We also learned how to determine if an imbalance is occurring on the fascial level and how to correct it. It's much easier than you think and yes I've corrected mine. Take home point: (all together now) Get off the foam roller."
He then goes on to state the following:

"I/We learned just how much the nervous system controls everything from how fascia is wound and unwound to how you are what you think you are on a synaptical level."
Now I am familiar with nerulogical disorders of the inner ear as well as visual distortions but some of this sounds a little too new-agey and good to be true. I mean, does this chiropractor really know stuff that mainstream science and medicine does not? Comments?

  • Deconstruction of "Z-Health Performance Solutions"

Hello all! I wasn't sure where to put this topic so I decided to start a new thread since I suspect that many of you will find it interesting.

There is a type of movement therapy (for lack of a better phrase) that is quickly achieving and almost undergournd "cult" status amongst it's promoters and practitioners. It is called "Z-Health" and is the brainchild of Dr. Eric Cobb, a chiropractor from the state of Washington.

I have taken a few courses and some of my colleauges (mostly Strength and Conditioning professionals and personal trainers) have even become certified Z-health intructors after paying thousands of dollars! Here's the website: zhealth.net

One colleague of mine (who's wife is a PT) in particular, recently posted the following on his blog regarding his recent Z-health certification (I-Phase):

"The money I have spent with Z-Health, although seemingly expensive for both my wife and I, has been worth every penny. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. I can help my clients in ways (almost instantaneously) that no chiro, PT, or Orthopod can. Is that a bold statement? You betcha. How can I say that? Cause I've already helped clients by using Z that chiros, PTs, and Orthos couldn't. How would you like to say that?"
These are pretty bold words. I'll post more from his blog shortly as I'd like some comments and feedaback.
