Quite apart from the meso-/ectoderm conflict, I've also encountered this notion of anti-discussion among peers in all types of situations.
Funily, some peers I have had discussions with (about manual techniques, approaches or scientific background) have just moved their goalposts right along during the discussion.
In the end, they feel like they were right all along and the whole potential of learning and improving (on both sides) seems diminished.
