The muscle(s) is working very hard, contracting enough of its fibers to show "muscular beauty," such as with 6-pak abs. Yet, when muscles are held by the brain in chronic contraction (AKA, tight low back) you could also say that those muscles are weak, as they have less contractile potential, essentially they are to some degree maxed out, so the poor human has no other option than using their arms to push up to a standing position from sitting. Quite a conundrum!
