Found this navrant definition of PT on www.spinaluniverse.com

Physical Therapy (PT) addresses body mechanics (posture), building strength and flexibility through exercise, injury prevention, and utilizes many modalities. Modalities include electrical stimulation, heat and ice therapy, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, and massage.

Where are we?

Sounds very American...but not so different from other countries perhaps.

Bernard, the world has no idea of what we do. Doctors understand better than 15 years ago, the general public thinks we treat limbs and chiros treat spines; in general, we treat muscles and joints. It has surprised and annoyed me that our association appears to make little effort to inform others. Our sports profile is large, and that comes across fairly strongly, and that annoys me too. We can do better than play around with people who insist on injuring themselves - and sadly. as in Germany, get killed.

I'd like to think we are on a freeway and will head off in a direction of the CNS focus, but we will probably end up on the roundabout again.

I don't know where we are; maybe in ten years there will be a direction/goal. Fortunately most physios have abandoned electrotherapy (except for U/S) but are knee deep in introspective joint and muscle gazing. Maybe some navel gazing would help somewhat, in the scheme of things.

Anyway, here is my new definition of physiotherapy:

A health profession which, by way of the neuromatrix, restores optimal function and promotes the well being of the community. :D

Definitely there needs to be less emphasis on physical and more on therapist. I think the emphasis on the physicality was necessary to get our profession embedded as a layer of treatment into the medical world, and likely that is still necessary in places, but we will come into our own. We will.

Hi Bernard , Nari & Diane :

However , busy i am in preparing for an English exam , i will share this post .

No way , humans brains and bodies like so much passive therapies such as quick manipulation and electro therapy.

We are swimming against the current and attitude .we are losers , not a condation losing in certain view , we lose money , people,s favouritness , sometimes we win in the long run , but in pain cases there is no clear accurate difference between what we do and passive therapies providers do , this is not strange my friends , over that this is over scintific , if we found a passive therapist succeeded using his/her techniques we will reason using the placebo theory .

It is diiferent world , let every one do , select what they want , they want to have pasive therapy , simply therapists do for them what they want , just we are burning our brains , nerves , crying in a very wide valley , however there is no one hears us .

We are , at least i am wrong , i have to pay taxes , rent , get money for food , why i lose all those , simply to apply active approach wowwww,,,of course , the other therapists are more intelligent than me .

Regards

Emad
