I know, I drag this chestnut up to the surface every so often..

Found an interesting site:

http://www.handcenter.org/newfile25.htm

Lots of information on the condition, and also found out that it is associated with 'frozen shoulder' in 50% of cases. I knew the histology of the two conditions is the same but it has to be a lot more complicated than that...
Don't know what is chicken or egg..

But it also occurs in the penis (Peyronie's diesease) and the sole of the foot.(Ledderhose) Same histology...
..and stretching can worsen the condition.

Nerve growth factor is also considered to be responsible for the fibroblastic expansion..

The plot thickens.

So does the connective tissue!
I wonder if it's related to scleroderma.

It may well be, but does not seem to have been investigated, beyond the fact that HLA DR antigens are common to both.

The entire chemistry of the palmar area is altered.

Dupuytren's on its own, will increase the risk of the following conditions:

Diabetes
Hyperlipidemia
Sarcoma
Mortality (????????)
Ulnar neuropathy
Cold-induced vasospasm.

Highest incidence in the world: Scotland.

Haggis? Shall we consult ian on haggis and Viking ancestry?
