Yes it is the same you viewed many times  but we need a start to explain the instability of the spine and all the insane treatments we had applied to relieve/care it.
I tried for hours to change to center of motion/rotation and all options failed 8) . The vertebrae may move like this, because!
1/ result of millions years of adaption to gravity.
2/ lowest energy
3/ lowest pressure
4/ lowest moves but greatest rotations
5/ harmony and smoothness in the movement.
6/ preserves nerves space!
Now, I will go to the bad side of the force!
It may be cause by
1. spinal stenosis
2. facet joints dysfunction
3. degenerative spondylolisthesis
4. lateral recess stenosis

I put ther my version of a aging vertebrae. I make a compilation of PubMed papers to reproduce the effect of bad loading on it.
It is a normal process there, no buging or herniation just de-hydration and bad postures?
Lin-
three of your statements seem for me consequences of instability?
I take only the second point because it fits with instability directly.
The definition of instability is abnormal motion either rotation (flexion/extension) or slippage = translation.
Look carefully at the movies and wait for the next ones to understand the real instability?
I agree the view points of you, bernard.
There are many factors that can lead to lumbar instability, right?
I think if the spine is not at the right position, and it could call instability or malalignment. There are many people try to look the instability may cause the lumbar pain? Maybe this a another points to see the Lumbar problems. :)

Hi Somasimplers,
After having read some papers a first conclusion may conclude that there is two distinct instabilities;
1/ the first one to appear is an augmented rotation with the vertebral bodies.
2/ the second is more a translation and appears later in the life.
These steps are quite sensed and I'll try to show you the two ones but I will explain, also, that these instabilities are not so unstable as we believe it!

Hi Somasimplers,
I begin an improbable set of lumbar instabilities.
This first one is impossible but will help you to discard some theories about instability.
We often listened that a vertebrae moved alone => I'm pretty sure that my body won't let do that movement. I'm quite certain, also, that my brain will activally refuse to move in that way?

Hi Somasimplers,
This second one is also impossible but will help you to discard some theories about instability.
The lumbar instability is defined as an abnormal rotation and even this abnormal rotation is quite irrelevant in front of physics' laws and human movements?

Hi Somasimplers,
This third one is also impossible but will help you to discard some theories about instability.
The lumbar instability is also defined as an abnormal translation. It is quite horrific to see it! Fortunately Nature prevents this kind of movement.

Hi Somasimplers,
Here we go with a more realistic view of the first impossible trial. Since our mouvement is ever a sequence of sub-movements, there is no chance to avoid/discard the continuity of motion.
