A detailed review of age-related degenerative cervical disc disease from a neurosurgeon's perspective!
http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic564.htm

These authorities reduces the role of physiotherapy to 3 lines!

By the way, this article is helpful in some areas for our daily work?

Hi Bernard

Good article, but based on interpretation of radiological viewing.
Depressing opinions on physiotherapy - no-one, not even the greenest doctor, would suggest placing someone with 'spondylosis' of the cervical spine in a RIGID collar! Scary. If they ever did ask the patient to wear a collar supplied by us, we would refuse to do it anyway, unless they could demonstrate severe pain and osteoporosis and instability. However, we do not supply collars - we threw them away some years ago.
A surgeon/specialist can recommend a particular treatment, but if we do not agree, we will not carry it out.
So their opinions are welcome but not at all mandatory. Most have learned not to recommend or request treatments, but leave it up to us.

Yes, the information on physiotherapy for medical students in the early 90s (when my daughter started med school) was 1 hour.
They were told to forget about hospital physiotherapists (they were only learning to be physios) and send only to private PTs.

She stood up and challenged them! (Don't think it changed anything)
