Hello readers,
I'm interested in whether anyone was able to attend the IASP World Congress (http://www.iasp-pain.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=2008_World_Congress_on_Pain&Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm&ContentID=1790) this year.
If so, consider posting about anything you thought was interesting.
Thanks.

I know someone going to the IASP conference in Scotland next year. Does that count?

That counts and I expect a full report in triplicate. Actually, I thought the one I posted was just this last August and not next August. Is there a "Duh" emoticon?
Hmmm. Scotland in '08...road trip anyone?

yes do come over !
a day at the conference the rest camping in the western isles , trip to Edinburgh maybe and walk up Ben Nevis
I am thinking of doing a humanities / photography study for the conference --something like the images in Touch and Emotion --showing how 'we' blend 'examination' with therapy , guiding movement and teaching and how this is different to the conventional medical model particularly with pain related disability ....
Ian, that sounds amazing. Do it!

I'm in! Sounds like a great chance for a real-time SomaSimpler reunion.
I'm afraid I've let my IASP membership lapse. Too many incomprehensible words in the journal.:teeth: I would like to look more at the "Pain and Movement" Specialty Interest Group. Seems like it would be good to begin unitiing some of the disparate pain groups developing under one banner.
And Ian, Ben Nevis sounds great. Although from what I recall, you prefer the north face - I think the sheep path's enough for me!

Nick, we could hook up with Dave from CPPSG. Except I think he's going to the satellite conference in Ireland at the same time.

Here is an event that Neil, of CPPSG, planned locally in conjunction with global day against pain in women, which is an IASP campaign.. It happens October 15 this year.. and yes, I'll be there, at least for part of it. Does this count Jon? Neil's conducting some research with Lorimer's help.
I'll be giving a slide show that evening to a group of sign language interpreters as well, a completely separate gig that just happened to fall on the same day (not my choice..), but it will be two events that both involve CPPSG members, so no one can accuse us of never getting anything done but reading and putting out newsletters...

Hi Diane,
I'm not sure what you mean when you ask if it counts but it sounds great to me.
Way to go with "doing". I haven't gotten past the reading phase and I'm even behind on that.

What I meant was, does it count for this: I'm interested in whether anyone was able to attend the IASP World Congress this year. :D

Oh. During my moment of duh I came to the understanding that the World Congress is not an annual event. It's more like the World Cup than the World Series.
It counts in my book Diane.;)

No, it's not an annual event. We had a chapter meeting here in SA with many of the big names attending. So, I'm up for the challenge to Ben Nevis, but count me out on buying the beer. Last one up has to buy...that's only fair.Or don't we practice what we preach??
