I looked up this thread (http://www.somasimple.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3825) this morning, and decided to take up line's proposal to move it here to Consciousness Corner. I'll also attach an engaging review of a conference ( Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness) held recently in Las Vegas, on consciousness and the brain, called "The Good, the Bad, and the Octopus", by Stuart Hameroff.
