Today , i encoutered a patient had humerous head fracture in 5/2006 .Operated the second day plates and screws applied at its time ,then was indentified as infection at operation site ,then entered for operation 2 months later to remove the plate around the fracture .

Nerve Conduction Velocity revealed brachial plexus injury ,not more specifically .

I assessed him today to find :

Shoulder Abduction is lost completely
Shoulder flexion lost also
Shoulder elevation ,protruction are normal
hand is normal all .

Which nerve is injuried the Circumflex or the Suprascapulr ??

When i searched somasimple for Circumflex nerve no circumflex there ,seems it is the same nerve axillary !!!!

Cheers

Emad,
Yes the circumflex nerve = axillary nerve. Or maybe circumflex is a branch of axillary.
How is shoulder abduction and flexion if you elevate arm in sidely?

Diane , Abduction & Flexion actively completely lost .The passive are available . If you mean i elevate and assess flexion and abdution i will apply that when i see him

So it's a motor loss, not a loss of ROM due to pain/stiffness..
Should be easier to figure out then.

Now , I am sure it is axillary/circumflex nerve injury ,as i assessed the sensory part i found it exactly the area supplied by the axillary nerve .AS well , i assessed the external rotation which is weak than the medial because of the teres minor muscle which is supplied by the circumflex n.

I hope Diane the threads of axillary nerve found on tunnel sydromes section ,the title of axillary added to it circumflex .
