I decided to make a thread for all the great videos Jon recommends. Mostly, it is in an effort to put them somewhere where I will always know where to find them.

Thanks Diane (good idea),

Have you checked out session 5? It features Patricia Churchland (http://philosophy.ucsd.edu/EPL/Pat.html) among others. What made think of you was Patricia's discussion of oxytocin and its influence on behavior. If I'm not mistaken you had some interest in that.

I've only watched #4 so far. Have you watched #6 yet with Elizabeth Loftus (http://faculty.washington.edu/eloftus/Articles/psytoday.htm)?

Yes, oxytocin is "tend and befriend" when stressed, a bonding facilitator, and vasopressin is the guy bonding version, "protect and defend."

Dawkin's The Strangeness of Science (http://tedblog.typepad.com/tedblog/2006/09/richard_dawkins.html)

"Human beings are unable to grasp the reality that exists beyond our perceptions. Evolutionary theorist Richard Dawkins explains why..."

Session 7 is particularly interesting for a couple of reasons. One is that they have a discussion about the Implicit Association Test that some of you will recognize from previous discussions and they touch on how the unconscious can impact health care (among other things). The other is that this is the session that resulted in this exchange (http://www.edge.org/discourse/bb.html) found at www.edge.com.
