I was reading the description of SS on one of the threads and it reminded me of a concept I read about many years ago in Upledger's book, CranialSacral Therapy. I looked for my copy of the book and could not easily locate it but, if I recall correctly there is a concept that he teaches in which he places his hands on the patient and allows them to take their body where (ever) it choses to go. Perhaps this is his "SomatoEmotional Recall" technique. Anyway, is there any correlation between this technique and SS?

Hi Stuart,
What is the meaning of SS in your phrase?

Stuart,
When you write "SS" I assume you're referring to this site. Soma Simple is not a way of treating patients, it is a web site.
Now, Simple Contact is the name I use to describe what I teach and it is commonly defined as "A technique of communication, either verbal or manual, designed to make another aware of their already ongoing processes and encourage their expression."
The movement typically revealed and encouraged to amplify its expression with Simple Contact is ideomotor; described in a number of essays on my site and in many threads here. In Dorland's ideomotion is defined as "motion or muscular action which is neither reflex nor volitional, but is induced by some dominant idea."
I understand your confusion. But a careful reading of Upledger's method reveals that he apparently knows virtually nothing of the neurobiologic revolution, ideomotion or the dangers of eliciting "tissue memory" or other similar issues regarding "past lives" and other fanciful notions of "alternative" practices. In the end, the similarities of Simple Contact and Upledger's "somato-emotional release" and Barnes' "unwinding" end when the therapist touches the patient and begins to follow.

Thank you for the clarification. And yes, I was mistaken in using the term SS when I meant SC.
