When i was in London with a friend, January of 2005, the Scientologists had an office (is that what you'd call it?) on the main drag we walked down everyday ~ Tottenham I think ~towards Leicester Square . And they would stand in the street with their signs offering a free "stress test" and calling to passers by. I always walked by them without making eye contcat (cultists really raise my hackles and i was trying to enjoy my stay in London)

One day as I walked by an older gentelman with a strong French accent was coming from the other direction, and one of the Scientologists called to him to offer the free "stress test" The French guy called back to him in an assertive voice, audible to anyone in the near vicinity "We do not have a problem with stress, stress is a malady of your society not mine" I don't know if would agree entirely with that, but it was amusing and made me happy. I wonder if the French are especially prone to dislike and speak out against Scientology (?)

I'm not French (unless being 25% Quebecois counts..:))

The only French ancestry I have was a bloke who came over with William the Conqueror in 1066 and drove the Brits underground.

I certainly support your post. L Ron Hubbard used to write good science fiction books; maybe he got carried away by the fiction.

It is fine..:teeth:
Why is the scientology is an evil cult?
Did they do a volient thing or harm people.
That is all they choose and we have to respect their religion, don't we?

It's a money-making machine disguised as a religion. Membership involves having to graduate through levels that cost thousands of dollars to study, that prepare your mind to believe that space aliens invaded the earth. You think this deserves respect?:eek:

Lin, it is a cult, and can have some disastrous effects on family life and a cohesive society. Its founder, L Ron Hubbard, was an excellent science fiction writer in the 60s and 70s; something happened between perception of fact and fiction.....

Southpark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2IO2ocziJw) does a fine job of explaining this one.

(You'll love the social grooming scene Diane ;) )

I agree with Nari for I read a few of his books back in the 80s.

Eric, you're right. The social grooming scene is too fun. I guess the, um.."alien souls" must have passed me by because I still have the human primate social grooming behavior.
