Hi all,
I just was inserviced by a massage therapist on bionic hydrotherapy. There wasn't much research, just a lot of testimonials. Their claim is that using sea salt with their machine, they can draw out accumulated toxins at the cellular level via the lymphatic system. It is essentially a foot bath in which they add sea salt and with the machine in the bath, go through a mix of positive and negative ions programs which draw out oppositely charged toxic particles through the pores in the feet.

While "ion technology" is not new, I couldn't find any research on this particular trademark: Bionic Hydrotherapy.

Any insights, or sites?

How about adding some little whirling brushes and some soap? :) ok, just kidding. Really though, it sounds more spa than science.

Hmmm

Sea salt is great for healing wounds (just wash with saline) and if the person bought a packet, put some in warm water (a dog's dish would do) and waggled the feet...same ionic power.

Fancy name, fancy ideas, and $$$$$. Why couldn't the patient be told to do this at home for no $$$s?

Oh I forgot....the placebo factor.

The LMP (licensed massage practioner) also provided anecdotal data with the typical story of my family thought I was crazy until I tried it on my 16 year old son. As the foot bath was concluded, I lashed at him for using nicotine again. He asked me how I knew and I said the brown color of the water. Since then my family thinks differently about what I do as a LMP."

The brochure she brought pointed to again anecdotal "evidence" that different colors of post "treatmen" water suggested different toxins. And if the water did not change color, then toxins were not being released.

Interesting,
