hi all ;

Currently , i have a patient 37 years male , experienced electrical shock since 8 months ,ended up with following :

1) Amputation above elbow (LT)
2)Both lower limbs injury for the deep peroneal nerves ,resulting in drop feet

The strange ,i asked him ,do you sometimes feel that the amputated hand still exists?He answered me ,yes, but i can not say that to doctors ,i think they will not believe me .

Any questions for this patient are welcomed .

Regards
Emad

He has phantom pain, a well documented phenomenon. It is possible to feel pain where the limb used to be, or in another area, eg, the face or arm.

Mirror therapy is the thing to do here, but read up V S Ramachandran's work on this; and maybe do a search, here on this board or through Pub Med or similar. It can be explained quite well, and the doctors could benefit from the information, too, from you.
Basically, the brain has not accepted that the limb has gone and it is concerned about the lack of movement from the missing limb; hence pain. Particularly in the case of such severe trauma.

Good luck
