Hi all ;

I use this simple neural glide ex for addressing upper quadrant disorders , espicially in severe cases .

I ask the patient to cross both upper limbs (putting the hand over the opposite elbow ,and the other the same ,then i ask the patient to do as following :
90 degree flexion of both shoulders then,

1) Horizontal abduction of one shoulder ,and horiziontal adduction of the opposite while the patient in the prescirbed above position .

2) Flex of one shoulder and ext of the opposite in the same above mentioned position .

Number , according to the sentivity , but i do not go further than 5 repitations .

This can be quite useful - shortening the lever, is what I called it, only I asked them to place fingers on the ipsilateral shoulder. Makes quite a difference, if one is pursuing improved shoulder function.

Nari;

I just tried it as you perscribed , but seems limited in practical practice , long lever is better .

Another point ,i do not put the upper limbs crossed ( as i have to in your perscribed one ) i put one over the other, exactly one forearm over the other .

If you are treating someone with high sensitivity, a long lever will stress the nerves more.

nari ;

Are you saying that , basing your conclusion on experience /evidence ?

I am saying that because clinically, if they need to perform a certain movement, say flexion or abd at the shoulder, it is much kinder on the nerves to have a short lever (ie elbow flexed) and they will feel less pain and therefore happier to do the required movement.

Nari ;

Your conclusion that elbow flexion is better , will be for only ULTT 1 (median ) , and Radial (ULTT 2) , on the other hand ,this will not be appropraite for ULTT 3 ( ulnar ) case .

the short lever , will decrease the range of the motion , but i feel it is uncomfortable .
