Hi my friends :

I find it so difficult to read the discussions online ,or even read it on the computer particularly if it is an article from for example manual therapy journal i have to print then re-read.

Do you experience like thus?

cheers

There are a lot of factors Emad. If you have dial-up internet service, it's really slow and disconnects can make you crazy. I got highspeed a few months ago and the difference is amazing. Also, an upgraded browser helps. I have an Imac, and used to use Netscape 4, moved up to Netscape 7, the highest my model of Imac can handle. WAY faster downloading of sites. It also permits much better, tidier, more lateral organizing of downloads and bookmarks.

Emad, I agree with Diane, the speed of dial-up internet is very slow compared with what we call broadband. Modems do the job, but whinge as they do it!

It also depends on the speed and power of your computer. Generally, computers more than three or four years old cannot handle the Net very well.
Downloading can be frustratingly slow, but are you saying that when you have downloaded, you have difficulty reading the text?

Emad,
I share the same thing with you. I need to have a print-out when I read. Especially when the writing is long.

When I write a paper (when i was a student), I had to print my paper out to proof-read it. I could do not do that on screen. I think that my eyes just can't tolerate concentrating my attention on the screen more than a ccertain period of time.

Hi Somasimplers,

I experiment the same problems while reading long posts (behind the problem of language).
The human guidelines for a good use of texts on PC screens was elaborated to give some advices;
1/ do not make pages that are longer than 1.5 screen.
2/ do not use too much fonts and flashy colors.
3/ avoid white background that tires eyes.

=> steps 2 and 3 are made on Somasimple but I had no time to cut the long texts on Sound of Silence. It will be made in a few.

By the way, I think that natural position while reading a book is more efficient that reading the same thing on a screen?

Bernard-

I agree that it can be more difficult to read off a screen, but while reading a book, what is the cervical spine doing? More than likely, flexed forward.

The non-white background sounds a great idea. I like the colour of this screen, but other secondary colours could be OK too.

Nari,

Yes, of course, cervical spine is more flexed forward but head is moving since generally you have two pages at once in the vision field. There is a perpetual moving?

The screen computer is a more stable thing than you do not move easily. Your head has to adapt to it and perhaps the head is more in a static state?

Hi Takao & Bernard :

you are right ,reading in a book is more better and efficient than screen .

understanding and the amount of knowledge ,easly acqiured together from the book and printed articles .

Could we with time accomidate our abilities of understanding and reading efficiency from the computer , i hope so , however people could set in the front of the TV longer periods without complaints ,like reading and studing from the computer .

Emad,
Watching TV and reading (wether a book or things on screen) are two totally different activities. One is passive and the other is active. Reading requires so much more synapses in the brain and efforts from our end.
