1. It's a place to vent cranky feelings.
2. It's a place to laugh heartily at the world's foibles.
3. It's a place to express/store opinions/feelings that are perhaps impolite.
4. It's a place to critique world affairs.
5. It's a safe place to do 1. through 4., because it IS after all, the rubbish cube.
Vive le rubbish cube, and thanks for providing it Bernard. It is an example of another brilliant idea that your mind produces endlessly, effortlessly..
Emad, I think you are uneasy about open critique of US policy, etc.. don't worry, it's normal. Simply don't indulge in it if you don't like it, but please don't try to censor it. Feels great!
Cheers,
Diane

Respect for freedom is a great thing, and one of the great things about freedom is that it also applies to opinion.
Vive!

I believe that 'mere' opinions and ideas existed across the science world long before they became scientific fact/EBM/EBP.
The first man to voice opinions and observations about tectonic plates (Wegener) was laughed at and ridiculed by the steady state 'gurus'.
The Aust. doctor who discovered helicobacter was scorned and ignored.
Opinions, imagination and hypotheses (all good right brain stuff) are the basis for proving validity.
Who knows what might be born in the Rubbish Cube???

Here is a youtube video on Creation Science (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffX9msPCwZk), too funny. :D
It belongs in the rubbish cube which is the wild frontier of everything; this video is wild...

Here is the Colbert Report (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/index.jhtml), a great sendup of all things reactionary and jingo-esque in the US.

The Colbert Report is a send up? But he's my hero..

As a clinical scientist, I find the word "Science" after the word "Creation" to be a bit of an insult.
And I share Randy's shock about Cobert - I thought he was legit!!

He's so good he has people thinking, but he's a c-o-m-e-d-i-a-n/actor (http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/host/stephen_colbert.jhtml). A very very good one.
Here is a Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colbert_Report) on his character, "Stephen Colbert", who only happens to have the same name as the actual actor.
I agree re: "creation" with "science" after it... which is why I brought the video here. Found it on Mindblog.
